Chapter IV Responses Ethan Frome
|
1. Identify
the tone of the following paragraph and, using textual evidence, explain why
this has been established by Wharton.
It was warm and bright in
the kitchen. The sun slanted though
the south window on the girl’s moving figure, on the cat dozing in a chair,
and on the geraniums brought in from the door-way, where Ethan had planted
them in the summer to "make a garden" for Mattie. He would have liked to linger on, watching
her tidy up and then settle down to her sewing….

Responses
|
2.
Weave in textual evidence to explain the
circumstances as to how Ethan came to marry Zeena.

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF
ETHAN FROME AND ENDURANCE HIS

WHO DWELLED TOGETER IN PEACE
FOR FIFTY YEARS
